Due to wanting to do a Fashion based image for this project, I looked at what the fashion industry does/has done in relation to recycling.
Recycling plays an important and vital role in trying to reduce the waste dumping ground areas.
This is a recycled wardrobe collection by RJ Dollen;
These dresses were made from newspapers;
This dress was made from old, computer, ribbon wire and worn on a catwalk for a 'Recycling' theme;
Inspiration for making the outfit
This 3D effect design reminded me of the Enviro-Couture colelction which features 100% recycled newspaper wearable's created by Elena Gregusova, as well as the upcycled hardware jewellery of Barbara Gregusova. Both collections are illustrated in the fine art photographs of Martin Gregus. Barbara’s abstract, geometric jewellery collection is resourcefully crafted from recycled hard drives, laser toners, ink-jet cartridges and other re-possessed electronic waste. But as seen, Lady Gaga`s outfit could perhaps be made from old cardboard and then painted.....
Many outfits and accessories of hers, look as if it could be made out of recycling.
I liked this idea of waste being re-used and recreated into something beautiful/useful. I wanted to try and incorporate this into my own work. For example, this outfit below could be made from bin liners.
Ulrich Lehmann lecture
This idea that the market deliberately producing clothes that will wear and tear in time, persuading people to buy new items of clothing!
Throughout this lecture I gained valuable information and researched into further artists / designers that reflection fashion becoming waste.
Throughout the PowerPoint the main notes that inspired me to research further was:
•`Waste makers`- Vance Packard 1960 p127 / book
•Fashion cycles, introducing something new…?
•The question : `fefusing fashion, is that allowed? Or does fashion represent your appearance?` / slow fashion-research
•London fashion week-ethical issue
•Bless website
•Junky styling
•Upcycling 1990`s
•Combining of clothes…?
•Converse website-pinhole camera
•Richard Prince ( purple magazine) interested in pop culture
•S Magazine vintage clothing
•Oyster magazine-image within an image
•
